THYROID

THYROID

The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland that sits low on the front of the neck.
wrapped around the windpipe (trachea).

The thyroid’s job is to make thyroid hormones, which are secreted into the blood and then carried to every tissue in the body. Thyroid hormone helps the body use energy, stay warm and keep the brain, heart, muscles, and other organs working as they should.

The thyroid gland is the body's thermostat, tells the body when to produce more heat or less. The thyroid gland uses iodine from food to make two thyroid hormones: triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4).
Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) is a pituitary hormone that stimulates the thyroid gland to produce thyroxine (T4), and then triiodothyronine (T3) as the body needed.

The thyroid gland secretes hormones such as:
1. Triiodothyronine (T3)
2. Thyroxine (T4) – and
3  Peptide hormone, calcitonin.

CAUSES

* Iodine deficiency
* Autoimmune diseases, in which the immune system attacks the thyroid, leading either to hyperthyroidism OR hypothyroidism
* Inflammation (which may or may not cause pain), caused by a virus or bacteria
* Cancerous tumors
* Certain medical treatments, including radiation therapy, thyroid surgery, and some medicines
* Some genetic disorders
* Stressful Lifestyle

NOTE: Occasionally, pregnancy can cause thyroid problems to start or get worse. If left untreated, this can cause problems for mother and baby, including miscarriage, premature birth, preeclampsia and bleeding after the birth.

How can we check at home, whether we have thyroid problem ?

First thing in the morning place a thermometer under your arm for 15 minutes. A temperature of 97.6 F or lower may indicate an under active thyroid. Write down the result for five days, if the test is consistently below 98 you are low thyroid.

Function:

1. Influence in metabolism (Metabolism is a process where the food you take into your body is transformed into energy)
2. Growth and development
3. Body temperature
4. Heart rate
5. Skin maintainer
6. Fertility

Types thyroid diseases:

Hypothyroidism (Hashimoto's disease): When a weak thyroid (underactive) does not respond. TSH levels remain high and you have hypothyroidism. It might be due to allergic to its own thyroxin. The immune system can produce antibodies that invade and attack the thyroid, disrupting hormone production.
Hyperthyroidism (Graves disease
Thyroiditis.
Goiter.

Thyroid nodule.
Thyroid cancer.
Myxedema severe case of hypothyroidism

Signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism include:

Fatigue and sluggishness
Inability to tolerate cold
Constipation
loss of appetite
Pale, dry scaly skin
A puffy face
Brittle nails
Hair loss
Enlargement of the tongue
A slow heart rate
Unexplained weight gain
Muscle aches, tenderness and stiffness
Joint pain and stiffness
Water retention(edema)
Muscle weakness
Excessive or prolonged, painful menstrual bleeding(ladies)
Fertility problems
Depression
Difficult to concentrate

Common signs and symptoms of hyperthyroidism include:

Anxiety and irritability
A fine tremor of the hands or fingers
Heat sensitivity and an increase in perspiration or warm, moist skin
Weight loss, despite normal eating habits
Enlargement of the thyroid gland (goiter)
Change in menstrual cycles
Erectile dysfunction or reduced libido
Frequent bowel movements
Bulging eyes (Graves' ophthalmopathy)

Fatigue
Thick, red skin usually on the shins or tops of the feet (Graves' dermopathy)

Rapid or irregular heartbeat (palpitations)
Sleep disturbance

Natural treatment for thyroid problems:

1. Devil's  Tree

2. Hibiscus

3. Skunk vein (Paederia foetida)  mash handful of that leaves and drink the liquid once daily for 1 month, male only for 2 weeks

4. Tulsi black

5. Turmeric

6.  ACORUS CALAMUS RHIZOME:

7. Pipli seed(Indian long pepper)

8. Ginger/(red)

9. Leucas Aspera

10. betel leave

11. Goose berry

12. Cinnamon

13. pepper

14. Anise star

15. Cardamom

16. Garlic

17.  Black sesame

18. Pulse (5-6)

19.  Black salt: add for gurgle with the above decoction

Other sources to include are:

1. Iodine: Iodine is an element that is needed for the production of thyroid hormone. The body does not make iodine, so it is an essential part of your diet. Iodine is found in various foods. If you do not have enough iodine in your body, you cannot make enough thyroid hormone.
Seaweed (including kelp, dulce, nori, Sea MossSea Moss:  It contains 92 of the 102 minerals present in the human body, is rich in vitamins (A, B, C, E), proteins, minerals, trace elements and taurine for vegetarians. Naturally good source of iodine, a micronutrient necessary for thyroid health. (seaweed is the best source of iodine available. A 10 gram serving of dried nori seaweed contains up to 232 mcg of iodine, more than 1.5 times the daily required minimum),
2. Drumstick leaves
3.Corn: It is an energy restorer, a thyroid regulator.
4. Avocado fruit
5. Snake gourd: Regulates Thyroid, Snake gourd is profuse in iodine content, which is vital to reduce elevated thyroid hormone levels, as well as zinc, which plays a central role in facilitating enzyme function for optimizing thyroid concentrations.
6. Pine apple: Thyroid regulation, Pineapples contain iodine and bromelain which are effective in improving various autoimmune disorders;  thus, effective in relieving symptoms associated with thyroiditis.
7. Ginger: stimulate thyroid secretion
8. Leek: Promote thyroid health
9. Coconut: it stimulate the secretion of hormone in the thyroid glands, Tender coconut water helps cure the drop in thyroid levels. It will help stabilize the working of thyroid glands and provide patients a balance.
10. Guggul: Guggul may regulate thyroid hormone and may potentially reduce hypothyroidism. People who have hypothyroidism may have issue with their height because of the imbalance of hormones in the body, which Guggul may correct.
11. Pumpkin: pumpkin and pumpkin seeds can greatly help improve thyroid function in the body.
12. Wheat Grass:

The abundance of the mineral selenium in wheatgrass improves the functioning of the thyroid gland. Adding selenium to the daily regimen is a great way to improve thyroid function, which aids in maintaining weight.
(Don't take wheatgrass if you're pregnant or breastfeeding. Allergic reactions are possible in some people, especially people who are allergic to wheat or grass.)
13. Sesame: Sesame seeds are good sources of nutrients — such as selenium, iron, copper, zinc, and vitamin B6 — that support thyroid health. Your thyroid gland contains the highest concentration of selenium of any organ in your body. This mineral plays a vital role in making thyroid hormones
14. Carrot  juice improves thyroid function slightly
15. Radishes have been used in Russia, to treat both types of thyroid problems. Raphanin chemical in radishes keep thyroxin level in balance
16. Remain on salt free, oil free, sugar free diet until the thyroid is under control. but on the long term you need a little salt and oil.
17. Exercise for it stimulates TSH production by the pituitary. T3 increases slowly in the blood during and after vigorous exercise
Note: (Different studies confirmed that increased exposure to heat during cooking reduces iodine content in foods and salts)
Things to be taken under consideration:
Diets : A thyroid deficiency can result from eating free fats (butter, margarine & mayonnaise (all are used in bread & bun spread) Fried foods, cooking fats, salad oils and commercial peanut butter,
Soy foods: tofu, tempeh (fermented soybeans), edamame (immature soybeans)
Certain vegetables: cabbage, broccoli, kale, Brussels sprouts, bok cho, turnips, cauliflower, spinach, yam, brinjal etc.
Fruits and starchy plants: banana, sweet potatoes, cassava (tapioca), peaches, strawberries, etc.
Nuts and seeds: millet, pine nuts, peanuts, etc. (but Brazil nuts, macadamia nuts, and hazelnuts are excellent sources of selenium, Walnuts can interfere with thyroid hormone absorption, so avoid eating them at the same time you take your medication.
Others: chlorinated water, fluoridated water, and toothpaste, an excess of them will block entrance of Iodine into the thyroid.

Note: Cruciferous vegetables such as cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and brussels sprouts. hyper can take them as raw where else hypo can take in the cooked form

Exercise: It is essential for your thyroid, When we're sitting in one place throughout the day without moving then activity of our thyroid gland starts slowing down and the thyroid starts rotting, When you exercise your thyroid gland gets movement and it gets squeezed, it gets its own exercise and slowly it starts generating hormones normally. Do for 1 hour, sweat should come out.

For thyroid problems - both hypo and hyper - a treatment that literally worked in 4 months for a friend bringing down 7 to 3.6 - absolutely normal and continues to stay there...

1) 5-6 drops of Cold pressed walnut oil used to massage the thyroid gland every night for 2-3 minutes

2) Half crushed coriander  in mortar and pestle - soaked overnight - boiled and simmer for 10 minutes, filter and drink half an hour before breakfast in empty stomach

3) Daily 20 to 30 minutes of exercise

4) Normal rock salt - kal uppu

5) Use clay pots or cast iron cookware - Avoid plastic, aluminium, non stick

6) Do not eat packed, processed food.

7) Do not eat cooked food stored in fridge.

Follow all 7 points continuously for 4 months without fail...

Testimony

UNDER ACTIVE THYROID

Last week my mother (Manipur) had a symptoms of under active thyroid like mood swings, discouragement, profound sudden lethargy, no appetite,  strong nausea, constipation, hardly speaks because of weaknesses, etc.
It was amazing praise to our Mighty God for His healing hand.
Daddy helped her applying iodine solution over her forearm to test whether iodine is low, it was so low that within 5  minutes it was dried up. So we were sure she is having under active thyroid. Next step was put cayenne pepper compression an hour over her thyroid area.
After few hours all her symptoms was gone especially severe nausea, she regain her appetite and started eating. Glory and Honor to our Merciful Father.
