CHOLESTEROL

Liver makes cholesterol according to our body demand and passes through the blood stream. 80% cholesterol liver makes from the carbohydrate and 20% from the fats.

Triglycerides are a type of fat, called lipid, that circulate in your blood stream. they are the most common type of fat in your body. Triglycerides come from foods, especially butter, cheese, oils and other fats you eat. Very high blood triglycerides, more than 500 mg/dL, can raise the risk for a sudden swelling in the pancreas called acute pancreatitis. Very high levels can also lead to changes in the eye's blood vessels

The main functions are to build strong cells, aids in food digestion and makes hormones like

including sex hormones (estrogen, progesterone, testosterone), glucocorticoids (cortisol), and mineralocorticoids (aldosterone),

There are two types of cholesterol HDL (high density lipoprotein) and LDL (low density lipoprotein). HDL higher in density flows in the center of blood stream, LDL lower in density its always on the edge of the blood stream.

The Function for HDL acts as a carrier- they carry back the excess cholesterol from the blood stream towards the liver to store. Where else the LDL is known as plaster as they repairer and rebuilder the broken arterial walls. The arterial walls (lines with little endothelium cells) are easily damage by toxins (exhaust from cars, pesticides),  chemicals (toothpaste, cosmetics. detergents), heavy metal poisoning (mercury teeth fillings), cigarettes (400 toxic chemicals), mold, etc. So the LDL has to fill up the holes otherwise it will bleed into the tissues, so they are like bandage. It also delivers cholesterol to the brain for brain loves cholesterol.

Excess LDL collects in fatty deposits/plagues along the inner linings of the arteries, slowly forming atherosclerosis (This condition causes arteries to become narrowed, and the narrowed blood vessels reduce blood flow to the heart, Atherosclerosis can occur in arteries anywhere in the body, including the brain, heart, arms, legs, pelvis, and kidneys).

All through out the blood stream we find protein molecules and when a person is in high carbohydrate diets releasing lots of glucose in the blood, the glucose connects with the little protein molecules, this combination forms a sticky substance and gets stuck along the arterial walls, slowly forming a plague, narrows the blood vessels causing blockage, which is one of the leading cause of stroke, heart issues. Example- Now we find  stroke or heart attack even when their cholesterol level is normal.

75% of the patients hospitalized for heart attack had LDL Cholesterol less than 130mg/dl. (American Heart Journal -2009)

  • Problems cause by arteriosclerosis

  • Aneurysms.
  • Angina.
  • Chronic kidney disease.
  • Coronary or carotid heart disease.
  • Heart attack.
  • Heart failure.
  • Peripheral artery disease.
  • Stroke.

Cholesterol is found in the blood stream, there are two types of cholesterol, This is what the physician measures your cholesterol level, ideally it should be under 200 mg/dl. But 40-50 years back then below 300 mg/dl was count as normal.

HDL- (High density lipoprotein) cholesterol cleans the arteries and the higher is good. (60 mg/dL (1.6 mmol/L) or above)

LDL- (Low density lipoprotein) cholesterol clogs the arteries and bad for health, the lower is better. (less than 100 mg/dL)

Triglycerol- Normal — Less than 150 (mg/dL), or less than 1.7 millimoles per liter (mmol/L)

Borderline high — 150 to 199 mg/dL (1.8 to 2.2 mmol/L)

High — 200 to 499 mg/dL (2.3 to 5.6 mmol/L)

SYMPTOMS OF HIGH CHOLESTEROL:

Symptoms of arteriosclerosis and hypertension.

(In this heart condition, excess LDL cholesterol builds up as plaque in the small arteries of your heart, narrowing and stiffening them. This reduces blood flow, which can make you feel tired or short of breath, as well as cause chest pain)

MANAGEMENT WITH NATURAL REMEDIES:

Matured drumstick leaves smash and soak in water for 30 minutes, & strain, take 2 times daily for 1 week every month

Bay leaves: They keep cardiovascular problems at bay by strengthening the heart's capillary walls, and help in lowering bad cholesterol level, bay leaves reduced serum glucose, total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, and increased HDL cholesterol levels
Coriander seeds: Boil 2 teaspoons of coriander seed powder in 2 cups of water, Once the amount evaporates in 1 cup, strain it and drink it when it is hot

Orange fruit: Drink a glass of freshly prepared orange juice every day. The natural fiber and vitamin C in oranges help clear blocked blood vessels. It increases the good cholesterol while decreasing the bad one.

Hibiscus flower: The consumption of hibiscus flower tea also lowers LDL cholesterol and triglycerides (fats in the blood) and increases HDL (good) cholesterol.

Fenugreek seeds, leaves, and holy basil all may help lower cholesterol.

FOODS THAT HELPS LOWER YOUR CHOLESTEROL LEVEL:

Polyunsaturated fat lowers blood cholesterols, this is found in soy oil, wheat germ oil, flax seed, corn oil (use cold pressed oil)

Monounsaturated oils lowers blood cholesterol like olive oil, nuts like cashew, walnuts, avocados, and peanut oil.

Foods like: carrots, cabbage, broccoli, onion, garlic, celery, lettuce, cauliflower, okra, tomatoes, mushroom, beet root, drumstick leaves, lemon, ginger.

Seeds: psyllium, flax seeds, perilla seeds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, Pumpkin or pistachio seeds

SPICES: Cinnamon, black cumin,

EXERCISE: lower LDL cholesterol and raises HDL cholesterol

SUNLIGHT: Helps your body control cholesterol

AVOID:

Saturated fat which mainly found in meat, butter, cheese and hydrogenated oil (worse kind of oil or fat)

Cotton seeds oil (are highly saturated, cottonseed oil was primarily used in oil lamps and to make candles)

Avoid Trans Fats known to raise LDL cholesterol. They lower heart-protecting HDL (good) cholesterol and increase the inflammatory response in the body. You can find trans fats listed on the Nutrition Facts panel of packaged foods.

Note: Trans fats are made when liquid oils are turned into solid fats, like shortening or margarine. These are called partially-hydrogenated oils. Trans fat is considered the worst type of fat to eat. Most trans fats are formed through an industrial process that adds hydrogen to vegetable oil, which causes the oil to become solid at room temperature.

This partially hydrogenated oil is inexpensive and less likely to spoil, so foods made with it have a longer shelf life. Some restaurants use partially hydrogenated vegetable oil in their deep fryers, because it doesn't have to be changed as often as do other oils

Eating large meals (stimulates the production cholesterol by the liver)

sugar had the lowest HDL, or good cholesterol, and the highest blood triglyceride levels

Fast food and deep fried foods

Processed foods, junk foods

Eggs has lot of cholesterol 275mg per egg.

Cholesterol lowering drug is call Statin, they are category ‘X’ drug FDA.

Statins increase the risk of

- Erectile Dysfunction by 51 %

- Statins increase sperm abnormality by 11 %

- 11 times increased risk of a breast cancer

-Statins may cause Diabetes, Muscle Damage and Memory loss

Side effects

 • Edema • Dermatitis • Fatigue • Chest pain • Fever • Weight gain • Musculoskeletal Pain • Muscle cramp • Musculoskeletal Traumatism • Dizziness • Sleep disturbance • Pins and needles • Urinary Tract Infection • Upper Respiratory Tract Infections • Cough • Influenza • Pulmonary Infection • Sinus • Bronchitis • Blurred Vision • Viral infection • Anxiety
