DIABETES PART-1

 DIABETES PART 1

Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs either when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces. Insulin is a hormone that regulates blood sugar.

Insulin, a hormone made by the pancreas, helps glucose from food get into your cells to be used for energy.

TYPES OF DIABETES:

1. Type I diabetes: Also known as juvenile diabetes, If you have type 1 diabetes, your body does not make insulin. Your immune system attacks and destroys the cells in your pancreas that make insulin.

2. Type 2 diabetes: Your body does not make or use insulin well While the body still makes insulin, unlike in type I, the cells in the body do not respond to it as effectively as they once did. This is the most common type of diabetes,

3. Gestational diabetes: Develops in some women when they are pregnant. Most of the time, this type of diabetes goes away after the baby is born. Gestational diabetes is the result of hormonal changes during pregnancy. The placenta produces hormones that make a pregnant woman’s cells less sensitive to the effects of insulin. This can cause high blood sugar during pregnancy.

CAUSES:

Do not know the exact causes of type I diabetes, can develop at any age, though it often appears during childhood or adolescence. Type 2 diabetes, also known as insulin resistance and more common type, can develop at any age, though it's more common in people older than 40, inactive lifestyle

Some of the signs and symptoms:

    • Increased thirst
    • Frequent urination
    • Extreme hunger
    • Unexplained weight loss
    • Presence of ketones in the urine (ketones are a byproduct of the breakdown of muscle and fat that happens when there's not enough available insulin)
    • Fatigue
    • Irritability
    • Blurred vision
    • Slow-healing sores
    • Frequent infections, such as gums or skin infections and vaginal infections

What health problems can people with diabetes develop?

Over time, high blood glucose leads to problems such as

  • heart disease
  • stroke
  • kidney disease
  • eye problems
  • dental disease
  • nerve damage
  • foot problems

How much is too much?

Insulin helps people with diabetes live an active lifestyle. However, it can lead to serious side effects, especially if a person administers too much.

Excessive insulin can cause hypoglycemia, or extremely low blood sugar, and lead to nausea, sweating, and shaking.

It is essential that people measure insulin carefully and eat a consistent diet that balances blood sugar levels as much as possible.

Hydrotherapy in diabetes patient:

1. Warm and Cold Warp: warm and cold wrap around your pancreas and kidney area will help insulin production and kidney elimination.

It has been found that water therapy can help reduce blood sugar levels, improve your sleep pattern and increase your sense of well being.

2. SOAKING WARM WATER:

Soaking yourself in a warm tub for 30 mins can help muscles relax, increase circulation and reduce blood pressure. Soaking in water helps all areas of your body and stimulates the release of chemicals and hormones in your body, which can help you feel better.

Soak in a warm bath for 30 minutes a day, 6 days a week over a three week period. The results were promising: on average, patients’ blood glucose levels dropped by 13%, In addition, people who were unable to exercise because of their disease reported additional benefits in terms of improved circulation to their skeletal muscles, since warm soaks open
capillaries and increase blood flow to muscular tissue.

There are three key factors in hydrotherapy, and they are heat, buoyancy, and massage.

1. Heat: Heat of the water helps expand blood vessels, and increase circulation. Hydrotherapy with exercise increase peripheral circulation in patient. Dilated blood vessels allow blood to travel where it’s most needed in the body, most commonly, hands and feet.  Hydrotherapy also helps alleviate tingling and numbness in limbs.

2. Buoyancy: The buoyancy of the water reduces body weight, allowing less pressure on aching joints. Buoyancy of the water in hydrotherapy helps ease tension throughout the body, and lessen stress which helps sufferers of diabetes.

3. Massage: The massaging feature is created by a mixture of water and air through water jets. The water jets help relax muscles, and increase the body’s endorphins, relieving pain.
