BACTERIAL INFECTION

 BACTERIAL INFECTION

Bacteria are single free-living cells that can live inside or outside a body. There are trillions of strains of bacteria, and few cause diseases in humans. Some of them live inside the human body, such as in the gut or airways, without causing harm. The body usually has a population of good bacteria that help maintain the balance of microorganisms. These line the intestines, mouth, vagina, and other parts of the body.

Some “good” bacteria attack “bad” bacteria and prevent them from causing sickness. However, some bacterial diseases can be deadly.

These include:

Cholera

Diphtheria

Dysentery

Bubonic plague

Tuberculosis

Typhoid

Otitis media(ear infection)

Pneumonia

Tuberculosis

Upper respiratory tract infection (although this is usually viral)

Gastritis / ulcer

Food poisoning

Eye infections

Sinusitis (again, more often viral)

Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

Skin infections: boil, cellulitis, abscess

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs)

Common signs and symptoms:

fever, feeling tired or fatigued, swollen lymph nodes in the neck, armpits, or groin, headache, nausea or vomiting

Signs and symptoms in CUTS:

* redness

* swelling or warmth

* pain or tenderness

* pus forming around or oozing

* fever

* swollen lymph nodes in the neck, armpits, or groin

* delayed wound healing

Signs and symptoms in BURN:

* Increase in pain or discomfort

* Redness

* Swelling or warmth

* Fluid or pus oozing

* Bad smell

If the burn blister bursts is at risk of becoming infected, so we should avoid burned blister to burst.

Signs and symptoms  in THROAT:

* sore throat

* difficulty swallowing

* red or white patches on the back of the throat

* headache

* loss of appetite

Signs and symptoms in URINARY TRACT INFECTION:

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) occur when bacteria from your rectum or skin enter your urinary tract.

* Burning sensation when urinating

* Urinate frequently

* Cloudy urine

* Abdominal cramps

* Fever

Signs and symptoms in LUNGS:

Pneumonia is an infection that inflames the air sacs in your lungs.

* Cough

* Pain in your chest

* Fever

* Sweating or chills

* Shortness of breath

* Feeling tired or fatigued

Signs and symptoms in FOOD POISONING:

Food poisoning can happen when you consume food or water that’s been contaminated with bacteria.

* Nausea or vomiting

* Diarrhea

* Abdominal cramps

* Fever

Signs and symptoms  in MENINGITIS:

Meningitis is inflammation of the tissues that surround the brain and spinal cord.

* Headache

* Stiff neck

* Fever

* Nausea or vomiting

* Confusion

* Sensitivity to light

NOTE: Bacterial and viral infections can cause similar symptoms such as coughing and sneezing, fever, inflammation, vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, and cramping all of which are ways the immune system tries to rid the body of infectious organisms.

Sometimes, however, too much of a good thing can be bad. For example, bacteria that are under our armpit are good because they consume our sweat secretions, but bad because they produce volatile fatty acids that turn into gas. That gas smells and is what we call “Body Odor" This is simply a negative by-product of this bacteria.

An example here is when you suffer a cut or a wound. The bacteria sitting on the pre-wound’s skin surface now can enter into your body and potentially cause infection. Not every skin breach causes infection, as we have all experienced. But in some cases, a wound that is not kept clean or a person with a compromised and weakened immune system can get ill. The symptoms are redness, hot to the touch, pain at site, and sometimes fever, chills, muscle aches, and an overall feeling of malaise.

Various ways pathogenic bacteria can enter the body

Pathogenic bacteria can enter the body through a variety of means including:     *Contamination of bites, cuts, rashes, abrasions and other breaks in the skin, gums and tissues

*Eating  contaminated food

*Getting bitten by an infected insect

*Having sexual contact with an infected person

*Kissing an infected person

*Sharing needles for tattooing or drug use

*Through the eyes, ears or urethra

*Touching infected feces or body fluids, and not washing your hands before eating or touching your mouth, eyes or nose
